What is wilderness? A wilderness area is an undeveloped land, water or sea, retaining an intrinsically wild appearance and character, or capable of being restored to such a condition. Wilderness areas are managed for the protection and maintenance of the natural character of the environment, biodiversity, and associated natural, cultural and historic resources. There are areas where people will find solitude and fulfillment and therefore will be roadless and without permanent habitation. |
