The Group, by virtue of its Articles of Association (as a company not-for-gain), is directly dependent on the procurement of funding to function as a small NGO. The Group wishes to initiate a number of projects to further wilderness conservation. These include annual wilderness training courses, to travel to Alaska to present an international course prior to the 8th World Wilderness Congress, a survey of southern Africa's wilderness and candidate areas and to publish a set of wilderness essays.
The Wilderness Action Group has raised funds, primarily for the Wilderness Concepts and Practice courses, but also to facilitate directors and members to attend Parliamentary Portfolio Committee meetings, public hearings and workshops in respect of legislation; the attendance of the World Wilderness Congresses, and to fund some of the administration costs of a small NGO, although much of these costs are borne by the directors and members themselves.
